 Great monitor, provided you read the specs May 05, 2012

First, let's get the obvious out of the way. There's only one full-size displayport (DP) input. A quirk with DP inputs is that they'll generally only work with DP sources. So, while you can convert from a DP output to an hdmi or dvi with a cheap, passive converter, to convert from hdmi or dvi to DP requires an expensive (>$50), active converter. So, if you don't have a computer with a DP output, you should probably stop reading now and look for something else. HP bills this as a laptop monitor, as many laptops from the past few years come with either a full-size or mini DP (thunderbolt is backwards-compatible). Many discrete GPUs also come with DP outputs. And yes, 1 hdmi input would've been more useful.
As for the monitor itself, it's a 5000:1 static contrast MVA panel. IPS and TN panels generally top out at 1000:1, and other MVA monitors by Asus or BenQ are currently around 3000:1 (though 5000:1 will arrive later this year). I don't know if the HP panel I received is actually 5000:1, but I do know it's the highest contrast LCD I've ever laid eyes on. Even cranked up to full brightness, the black levels are comparable to my macbook's at minimum brightness. For every LCD I've ever owned, the blacks eventually become grey as you turn up the brightness. On this monitor, it stays very black, and that's kind of incredible.
Random observations:
- The response time isn't very good, so if you plan to do a lot of 60fps gaming, look elsewhere. For movies and tv shows, it's perfectly adequate and I didn't notice ghosting any worse than my other LCDs.
- As it's an MVA panel, it also has much better viewing angles than TN, though not quite as good as IPS.
- There's no VESA mount.
- The electronics are housed beneath the screen, so while the bezel along the top and sides is fairly thin, the bottom bezel is quite large.
- Depth-wise, the monitor is incredibly thin, and overall very light.
- Windows update will download an ICC profile, and OS X has one as well. I only made minor adjustments within the OS-level calibration tools, but I don't do color-sensitive work.
- There's no on-screen display, only a power button, brightness up/down, and a small LED that is always on.
- My particular unit has no dead pixels, or light bleed, and is well constructed.

This monitor is extremely thin, the screen looks just as good as that of my fairly new MacBook Pro, and I can view it from much wider angles than my previous monitors. I especially like the simplicity of the controls (basically, just buttons for power and brightness +/-) without the need to use clunky menus like most monitors require. It really seems like this was made for laptops, just make sure you have a laptop with a full-sized DisplayPort connector, or else you'll need to buy an adapter.
I was kind of wary regarding the design when I first saw it, but the arm that props it up is solid and tight- its an extremely sturdy monitor. Honestly, it does seem like it goes well with my MacBook Pro considering the design, and I would recommend this highly to anyone with a technologically mobile lifestyle (:
Also, I purchased this monitor from ANTOnline ($159.99, free shipping, no tax), and they managed to get it to me within 5 days. That's pretty good service, considering I was expecting it in twice that time with the free shipping option.

This product was supposed to be PC compatible but did not work for me, I have purchased several HP products in the past and this was one of the typical experiences that I have had in the past, The Laptop I purchased for 1400.00 had to be sent to HP 4 times to be fixed over a period of 6 mo. of which I had the laptop about a week of that time, It then lasted another 1.5 years and then died, This Monitor was said to be PC compatible with a Display Port, It did not work for me, Connected it to the mini Display Port and just the power light came on, The computer didn't even sense that ther was a monitor plugged in, I have 2 other monitors plugged in to the mDP ports and they both work. Also ANTOnline is not a good source for anythig they charged me to send it back, and then said that it worked, my experience said otherwise, I have been using and building computers for 23 years, but they said I was wrong!! ant their little experience cost me 45.00 total, So I would suggest a different source for your'r component purchases, and not any HP products their customer service is really bad.

Incompatible with almost every computer May 04, 2012

This Monitor uses a displayport. Unless your computer has a displayport, this monitor will not work for you! Beware. When I received it, I bought a converter that would convert VGA to Displayport, how stupid of me to think that the converter would be capable of conversion. However, this monitor will not allow you to convert from displayport to anything, HDMI, VGA etc. Buyer beware.
