5They do the job  Sep 28, 2010

I've been using these Memorex Music CD-Rs for a few years now. There's a difference between regular CD-Rs and music CD-Rs. Regular CD-Rs are all-purpose CD-Rs that allow data backup as well as music files. In contrast, the music CD-Rs, while also all-purpose, are specially designed for recording music on them. The music that is recorded on them comes out clearer and more powerful than it does on a regular CD-R. I used to be in a rock band in the mid-'80s and I transferred our six albums from tape onto CD using these music CD-Rs. There is a noticeable difference in the sound quality compared to when I recorded the music onto regular CD-Rs.

Note: CD-Rs are not re-recordable CDs. Once the CD has been finalized, it can't be erased. If you want CDs that allow you to erase them and re-record, then buy CD-RWs (re-writables).

This 10-pack of CD-Rs come is assorted colors - gold, red, purple, blue, and black. The label side and playing surface of the CD-Rs are the same color. I like the black ones the best. They look the coolest.

These CD-Rs can store up to 80 minutes of music (actually 79:43 typically) and have 700 MB of storage space. You can have a field day and record MP3 discs and put a couple hundred songs on a CD, depending on how many kbps you're using. Typical CD quality is 128 kbps. If you record at, say, 192 kbps, you won't be able to fit as many songs, as this setting uses more space, but the sound quality is higher. Even better sound quality is 256 kbps, but again, even fewer songs will fit. It's up to you. You can even go below CD quality, say, 96 kbps. In order to do all this you need a CD burning system like Roxio or MusicMatch or WinAmp, something like that.

All in all, this is a good product. The playing surfaces of the CDs don't scratch easily. Of course, how well you take care of the CDs makes all the difference in the world. Everyone knows somebody who doesn't take care of their CDs and/or DVDs. You know - you look at the playing surface and it looks like the person rubbed sand paper on the surface. Then the person wonders why the CDs and DVDs skip. Duh!!!!! Common sense should tell the person that all the scratches are going to make the discs skip. Scratches that are 100% preventable.

Anyway, I think you'll like these CD-Rs. I recommend them.

5worth the price  Feb 06, 2009

This was more of a need than a want so I could back up certain things on my computer. It does the job :-) I also like the jewel cases...it keeps the disc's clean and free of dust.

3All the pretty colo---skips---rs  May 06, 2003

I bought them because they look cool especially the black CDR, but this CDR is one of the below average CDRs I've tried. I burn Mp3 songs and play them on my discman. When I go outside for a walk, my music cd tends to skip alot. After finishing the whole box, I switched back TDK or Sony.
